CLICK PICK: Crispina ffrench
Textile guru Crispina ffrench may have closed her shop, Fuchsia Home, in May 2008, but she’s still open for business. From her Pittsfield, Massachusetts, renovated-church studio space, ffrench is still hard at work upcycling old clothing scraps into all sorts of colorful creations from quilts and her stuffed Ragamuffin animals to garments and home decorations.

Last spring, ffrench helped form the Alchemy Initiative in downtown Pittsfield, a group focused on fostering sustainable urban gardening and an open mindset. And most recently, she wrote a book, The Sweater Chop Shop, published by Storey Publishing in North Adams, Massachusetts, which details her process for creating one-of-a-kind items from dejected sweaters.
Connecting her many projects is ffrench’s blog, which exhibits, just as colorfully as her art, her ongoing adventures and links to an online shop where her creations are available for purchase. With quick visual takeaways and lighthearted notes, ffrench’s blog is a window into the world of the Pittsfield design celebrity, and, like its owner, is a full-fledged supporter of the eco-friendly creativity that ties our region together.
