Did and Didn't Do With My Summer Vacation
What I Did and Didn’t Do With My Summer Vacation
(A first and perhaps last attempt at a prose poem)
I didn’t do enough riding of my bicycle—though trying to make up for lost time now.
I didn’t do any hammock reading
I didn’t do any Red Sox games at Fenway
I didn’t swim in the quarry up in Vermont
I didn’t get out to LA
I didn’t get to any beaches, period
I didn’t jump on the trampoline
I didn’t play any squash
I didn’t get to NYC
I didn’t pick any blueberries
I didn’t play enough tennis
I didn’t get sick, not once
I didn't really mind all the rain
I did play some tennis
I did hurt my elbow playing tennis
I did see lots of plays
I did write lots of reviews of said plays
I did take some runs with my daughter
I did take a lot of walks with my wife and my dog
I did eat well
I did read a few books
I did join facebook
I did reconnect with some old friends via facebook
I did celebrate my wife’s big birthday
I did take the family to South Carolina/North Carolina to see more family
I did blog a little
I did some work on an old play
I did try and warn friends and colleagues NOT to come see it
I did not convince them
I did work on a novel
I did say goodbye to my daughters
I did feel very sad
I did notice that the house has become much less messy
