CLICK PICK: Modern Family
The burgeoning downtown arts scene in Pittsfield, Mass., has certainly upped the ante along North Street and its environs; now there’s an online presence to highlight and solidify artists as a community. Launched last year, Pittsfield Contemporary is a virtual arts hub highlighting both larger venues such as the Berkshire Museum, smaller galleries like Ferrin Gallery or the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, and public projects like Artscape, a sculptural construction on Pittsfield’s First Street Common.
Also included on the clean, modern site are profiles of individual artists from the area, which offer visitors a glimpse into the inner workings and many facets of the city’s lively scene. An ongoing calendar of art-related events and shows as well as a classified section and a blogroll make the site as practical as it is pretty. Creative perks, like an original font available for download and snappy articles from the web, show that Pittsfield Contemporary the complete package. [JULY 2010]
